About Site Maverick

The more web development I’ve done, the more annoyed I’ve gotten. Managing WordPress, setting up cloud hosting, customizing themes and layouts, dealing with databases, backups, static site generators, PHP, python, CSS frameworks, and even trying to register a domain name.

I am always thankful and appreciative when I’ve been able to do a search and find a solution to a problem I’m facing. The times when that’s not the case have lead to hours upon hours trying to figure out a solution.

The problem is that sometimes I encounter the same problem months or years later and don’t remember the solution I came up with the first time. That’s why one of the main reason for SiteMaverick.com to exist is so I have a reason to write documentation of solutions that I come up with.

Other projects I’ve done have shown the importance of being able to setup alternatives. For example, hosting that is capable of running WordPress is only cheap for the first year. Not being able or willing to switch hosting providers comes at a steep cost. It’s easy to see how you get price gouged on domain registration renewal.

I registered SiteMaverick.com because of how difficult it was to find a .com domain name that wasn’t already registered. I like it because it reflects my attitude of wanting nothing to do with WordPress, which runs almost half of the sites on the internet.

My problems with WordPress revolve around the difficultly in administering a website. Constant updates are required due to security vulnerabilities. There are so many features that I don’t need, but require server infrastructure. So I’ve gone to looking for alternatives that better suit my needs, such as static site generators like Hugo.
